"To get to Dhawa / Balmitar, it takes 8 hours by bus from Kathmandu to Arughat village where the road stops. Then you have to walk. From Arughat it is a 2 hours walk uphill to get to Dhawa in the dry season. During the monsoon you usually have to walk 10 hours across the mountains."

Kathmandu - Dhawa

In einem Blog schreibt Justin über Dhawa:

"Dhawa is a beautiful village nestling in a lush valley at the entrance to the Himalaya national park.

Surrounded by snow capped peaks, it's climate is unusual for Nepal - remaining subtropical all year around. This is because Dhawa is only 500m above sea level.  Winters are very mild, with average daytime winter temperatures of 20C.

Dhawa is in the Gorkha district of Nepal, 130km north of Kathmandu. The nearest town is Arughat, the entry point to Manaslu, Himalaya.

Dhawa is a very remote village. It has no electricity and no access road, taking between 1.5  and 16 hours to reach on foot, depending on the season.  The population of around 4000 is scattered very quite widely across the surrounding countryside. Dhawans are extremely warm and friendly to visitors, perhaps becuase they don't get too many! And you'll rarely see them not smiling. Their home is indeed a beautiful spot.

Dhawa's children number around 700 of school age.  Currently around 500 attend the village school, while the emaining 200 stay home due to their parents choice. Changing their understanding of the importance of education is a key goal for Giri Lamichhane, Dhawa's headmaster, and LP's local project co-ordinator."

Wir fliegen am 23. Oktober über Doha nach Kathmandu. Bitte drückt uns die Daumen!  -  UF
